CREATION (AFFIRMATION) OF SELF

I start off by stating “I AM A MALE PAINTER” but of course I am not a male painter. I do paint but I am not male. So why am I stating this? Well, being a material girl for years and years can easily become pretty boring. By stating that I am something I am not, I am able to absorb some of the attributes from the stated person. 

 

Stating that “I AM A MALE PAINTER” was in some ways useful. I did gain some new confidence. But was also met with resistance. When I tried to claim more space I was told I should not do so. Even when I did book a space by every rule in the book I was told to leave. Female male painters should not try to claim space and get away with it. 

 

I decided not to stop here and think further. What kind of artist do I really want to be?
